The Claw

My hands were super dry but it’s near impossible to rub hand cream all over them when half of one of your hands isn’t working, so I was taking it slow and using my right hand to gently moisturize my left hand when all of a sudden my hand slipped and flew towards my thumb which shrieked in anticipation and got hit directly in nerve central. Sweet Mother of MERCY. It felt like I had taken a hammer to my hand when I’m sure all I did was touch it slightly, unlike the over dramatic manner in which I experienced the pain. My whole thumb has been paying for this dearly. Thankfully I am going to the doctors this afternoon to get the stitches removed. My only fear is that since the stitches are tightly sewen right above nerve central I might experience this hammer sensation when he removes them. I am actually extremely nervous about it. Its one thing to accidentally move your hand and feel pain, its another to give your hand to someone else to anticipate pain.

I didn’t take any Advil yesterday, today however, I am loading up on them.

One day its fine, the next day its not. One day I CAN pull my socks up, the next day I get shot at with nerve damage. From the case studies I’ve read on nerve damage to ones hand, I’m looking at at least a few months of pain before everything heals up and can be used properly again. So far I have created in-genius and slightly mentally retardedlooking ways to get my daily tasks done. Basically my index finger has taken place of my thumb and I use my teeth to open a lot of things. But I manage. Walking around with my claw makes me look like I had my arm amputated and had to get a fake on in its place. You know the one that only grips things in a claw like manner.

At least I’ve got a cool nickname now.
