Birfdays and Seattle
Friday, April 30th, 2010With the Canadian dollar being so strong these days, Chad and I have been talking about taking a trip South to take advantage of some food and shopping. Last month he suggested taking a trip down to Seattle for my birthday, since my work always gifts me a day off as a sort of birthday present. This was a genius idea, because other then long weekends, I have no holiday time until Italy, and both of us are in desperate need of a getaway.
We were hoping to do something after the Olympics as a kind of stress relief holiday, but nothing really worked out, and looking back on it, it’s probably a good idea that we didn’t because of Chad and his foot. He will still have his cast on while we are in Seattle, but at least he will be able to move around more. It also happens to work out nicely, because we get to look at it as a celebration and an end to all the medical stuff we’ve been through for the last year and a half.
My Mom suggested booking a hotel through Priceline, because that’s what her and my Dad did for their trip last year and it worked out really well. We wanted to stay right in the heart of downtown Seattle, but really didn’t want to spend a huge chunk of money, so we were lucky to get two night at The Westin for $100 per night.
I can’t remember who came up with the idea, but in seeing that I am obsessed with Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, it only made sense to see if there were any locations in Seattle that he had visited and suggested. Out of a handful, we found two that we plan on check out…
Obsessed much? Sort of.
If you are as obsessed as me, or just want to find some place cool to eat, I’ve discovered this website that has all the info on all the Diners that Guy has been to. This is a treasure chest for anyone who wants to check out Diners, Drive-Ins or Dives.
We don’t really have anything else planned out so far. I do want to hit up the Outlet mall on the way down, and probably the Greek Deli for lunch.
Of the few things we’ve research we do want to check out…
- The Space Needle
- Pikes Place Market
- Waterfront Park
- Peir 55
- Pioneer Square
I guess everything else we will just play by ear, maybe have the hotel suggest something. I do want to spend as much time outside as possible, and I hope we have a chance to sit at a cafe and just people watch.
If you guys have any suggestions of things to do in Seattle I would love to hear them. I’ve only ever been once and that was for an all girls shopping weekend, so the sights and sound of Seattle weren’t really touched.
I also still need to pick a restaurant for my Birfday dinner. I’ve got an outfit, but no where to go.
I’m really excited for the Diners tho!
