The Perfect Saturday

It was PNE good times last Saturday.

The Tyrrell’s got tickets to see the BC Lions Home Opener and invited us out to join them. Ryan then got the genius idea to make it a full day of events and head over to the race track before kick off.

I like the way this man thinks!

Hastings Race Track
Hastings Race Track

I heart the race track. Not only is it fun to bet $2 on the horse with the coolest name, but it is also such a great place to people watch.

The Old Asians

Willy Quan…Is that you!?

Who wouldn’t want to sit and stare at this view all day?

Johnny Drama

I didn’t know Johnny Drama was showing up.

Track Head

After the game we tried to look for a place to eat that we could walk to. Unfortunately everything was packed full of Lions fans, so our only option was to hit up Tom and Jerrys on Hastings street. This place is GHETTO, but I have to say, the food was pretty damn good. Totally not what I was excepting. I probably won’t go back, but for what it was that day, it was good.

BC Lions Home Opener

The funniest thing was watching all the players come out of their locker room, which was of course, a portable!

WOOT WOOT!

CF18

CF18 BONER. I was obsessed with this thing the whole night. I am still so obsessed that Chad is going to take me to the Abbotsford Air Show so I can see it again. YAY!

Wow, TSN, I expected more…

CF18 Pilot

I’m sneaky and got a picture of the Pilot who flew the CF18. Yes, he made it to the game after his fly by!

Also note, that there is really no point in me ever wearing making up since it only lasts on my face for 5 minutes.

It was a good first quarter. They scored a touchdown right in front of us. The rest of the game sucked, but the atmosphere was awesome!

Where the Horses were
Hello Mister

We got word from Elise’s friend who works PNE parking that they park all the overflow cars on the inside of the track. I had to see this for myself, plus it gave me an opportunity to run around on the horse track, which seemed like an amazing idea at the time.

A great day in our beautiful city! I love the PNE and all the things it has to offer on its grounds.

I can’t wait for more summer days like this!

More Hastings Racecourse!!!

As Life Passes Us By

This is what’s been going on as of late…

Elise and Ryan are get married this coming Saturday. This will be the first wedding Chad and I have attened since our own wedding. I am so nervous. I know that sounds ridiculous since I’ve already been there, done that, but you know how I feel about attention being on me, and the fact that I have to make a speech doesn’t help. But of course, it’s not really that big of a deal, and it will be over in a flash and I will do fine, I’m just really anxious to do it. I’ve got 3/4 of my speech done, and I think I will  feel much more comfortable once it’s done and I’ve practiced it a few times. I think that’s half the anxiety I am feeling. I just need to get it done. In the mean time there are a bunch of other things I need to get done for Saturday – get a new strapless bra, steam the bridesmaids dresses, figure out my jewellery situation, make Elise some detachable sleeves for her wedding dress. Then there is the Thursday rehearsal, Friday night nails and sleepover, and then it’s WEDDING TIME!

Chad got a Weber BBQ Cookbook for his birthday and we have been trying a lot of the recipes in there. So far everything has been pretty amazing. Sunday we made Quesadillas, and last night Hamburgers from scratch. They were so good! 95% of everything in the cookbook is done on the grill which is perfect for the summer since there is no stove/oven involved, and the clean up is so easy on my part. It’s a welcoming change to our 2 hour gourmet Winter dinners!

Chad’s ankle is still technically broken and swollen, so he still hasn’t been able to do the Grouse Grind. I’ll actually be surprised if he’ll get the go ahead to do it at all this year. In the mean time, we’ve finally decided to get out of the house and have started nightly walks around Deer Lake Park. We had been once before with Marlee last year, but were obviously too lazy to make a habit out of it. This year we’ve finally got our butts in gear and have vowed to do it at least a few nights a week. It’s such a nice place to walk, with lots of different trails. You can stand almost anywhere along the walk and totally forget you are in the heart of a city. Its so much nicer then Central Park which is so busy most days.

I’ve being doing a lot of Italy research whenever I can find a minute or two. I’ve some how become the Southern Italy expert since I’m the only one actually planning our route and reading up on all the towns. I’m anal that way, but at least we will know whats going on!

My Nonna thought for some reason I needed more basil then the basil she already gave me, so I have another giant pot on my deck dedicated to Italy’s favorite herb. I should probably start selling it on Ebay or something. If you ever need some basil, you know where to find it.

There were many intersection lights out this morning which made for one of the most horrible drives to work and subsequently put me into a rage filled mood. Holy crap I want to explode right now.

I have officially given up CFOX as my favorite radio station and have replaced it with The Peak. You can blame that on finally having enough of Todd & Karen, and that effing horrible Ozzy song they play every 3 seconds. Good bye Nickleback, Ozzy, AC DC, and the WORST idea in the entire world – 4:20 Mandatory Marley. UGH. Hello Cold War Kids, I’ve missed you so.

I also have a feeling that my favorite saying “I’m going to punch them in the FACE”, will be used a lot today. Just a predicition.

Breath in, breath out.

12:29

Chad is watching Mythbusters.
Elise and Ryan have gone home.
I really want to eat some cheese.
The plants are watered but the apartment is a mess.
Today was a great day.
So many things always going on.
T minus 7 days.
I think it’s time for bed.

LA – Malibu – Topanga

On our one ‘Free Day’ we decided to make the trip out to Malibu. In the four times I have been to California I have never been to the beach, until this time that is!

There were a couple of stops we wanted to make along the way. One was to the super cute and expensive out door mall on the Pacific Coast Highway, and of course, Malibu Seafood. Oh the things we do for food!

The Beverly Hilton

We passed by some pretty nice places on the was to the PCH. The directions we were given didn’t work out 100% but it was a wonderful drive non the less.

Beautiful

Hello dream balcony! Thanks to our misguided directions we did manage to encounter our one and only star sighting – Chris Parnell!

Pacific Coast Highway!

No Cameras

I find this sign quite amusing.

The giant fish tank at the out door mall. You can actually see a partially eaten fish at the button of the tank.

Kitson

That store is just way too damn expensive.

The View

Stormy clouds that never produced a storm.

The View

Not the weather one would expect in Malibu.

Malibu Seafood

Malibu Seafood! Made it!

You can see all the yummi foods we ate in the FOOD post below.

There are always choppers in the sky.

Kind of an awkward photo. ahaha.

Malibu Beach

I was obsessing over the waves.

This strip of houses was ghettttto.

The Stairs

I was, however, obsessed with all the beach erosion and how the stairs all had to be constantly added on to.

Dolphins

DOLPHIN!

The only reason we actually spotted the pod was because some little Mexican girl started to freak out over them. Thank you little Mexican girl!

Malibu Beach

I invented a beach feet washing system.

Topanga Canyon

Our next plan was to drive up the Topanga Canyon; possibly to try and find Charles Manson, and possible just for the drive its self.

Topanga Canyon
Topanga Canyon

Once Claudia told me Charles Manson lived close by I had to Wiki the whole story, and then obviously because overly obsessed. Sometimes, I have creep obsessions. Hello Riverview!

Topanga Canyon
Topanga Canyon

Claudia had this whole plan ‘mapped’ out that we could drive through the Topanga Canyon, come out the other side and take Mulholland Drive back to West Hollywood.

Topanga Canyon

Well…we tried and ended up driving down some private dirt road that lead to no where. Umm…yea…not good!

So much for that plan!

Beverly Hills

We ended up just driving back the way we came and took Sunset Blvd home while trying to look for OJ Simpson. Current Obsession #2.

Speaking of OJ, has anyone seen that recent sports documentary about June 17th 1994 and how insane it was for sports lover with all the craziness that was going on plus the OJ white bronco pursuit thrown on top of it? I’ve caught the last half of it twice in the past two weeks. OBSESSED.

But I digress…

We (well, Claudia) though we saw something going down and paparazzi all around so I made an emergency right turn to catch the action. Turned out just to be a Jewish wedding. Claudia thought it had to do with the Mafia but I reminded her that the Mafia doesn’t run LA, the Jews do.

Next time we go back, we might as well break down and buy a map to all the starts home. Maybe we will get lucky that way.

The Phone Call

I have a reoccurring nightmare that I am in an emergency situation and I need to call Chad right away.

I attempt to call the home phone but I can’t seem to get the numbers right.

I then attempt to call his cell phone but every time I punch in the numbers I do it wrong. Again and again I get the number mixed up.

I attempt to scroll down my cell phone to find his number in my contacts but every time I find it and press call it scrolls down and calls someone else.

This just causes me to panic more and more until I wake up.

I hate this dream because there is nothing worse then being in an emergency situation and not having the ability to contact someone.

I just tried to call his cell phone to ask him a question – non emergency situation – and I dialed the number wrong 5 times. WTF?!

It’s like my dream is coming true…
