High School Basketball

Last Saturday we were invited to our first ever High School Basketball game!

Both Ryan and Elise coach basketball at Holy Cross High school, their old alma mater and the school Elise currently teaches at. Every year Holy Cross hosts the BC Catholics Championship, and this was the first year since 1997 that both the Senior Girls and Senior Boys were in the Championship game. Not only that, but my youngest cousins, Elise’s siblings (who are twins), were playing in both games. Talk about a good day to watch High School Basketball!

The Ciavarros

I put on my American Eagle jeans and Hollister T and was ready to go. Haha!

Bench Warmers

Elise and Ryan, so professional on the bench.

The girls game was first.

Ryan Cleans the Floor

Ryan had to do some extra work and cleaned the floor. Chad cheered for him.

Cecile Shoots

Cecile, my cousin, taking the free throw.

Girls Win
Shake Hands

The girls won, but the game wasn’t very close, so there wasn’t a lot of drama, which was quite the opposite of what we were about to experience during the boys final.

We were actually surrounded by STA supporters blowing vuvuzela in our ears, which had Chad and I quite annoyed, but how can you beat up 16 year olds excited about their team?

Chad is Hungry
I want to Punch the other teams Fans...

Chad also had not eaten since 1pm and it was now almost 7. Dinner wasn’t going to happen until after the boys game, so someone was extra cranky.

Boys Practice
JUMP!

In the boys finals it was Holy Cross vs. St. Tomas Moore.

Luke in Mid-air

My cousin Luke is in the corner scoring the first point of the game. Mid-Air-Shot!

Boys Play

The boys game was very intense, with Holy Cross trailing for most of the game.

Spirit Fingers

Everytime one of the guys went to do a free throw, everyone waved there fingers in the air, kind of like spirit fingers.

I didn’t know a Catholic school could be so superstitious ;)

Boys Win!
Shaking Hands

The boys won in an intense overtime final. I was losing my mind during that last 20 minutes of the game. Since Cecile won her game, I really wanted Luke to win his. Both twins winning championship games!? It’s the dream ending to a Sweet Valley High novel!

Boys Win
Girls Win

We were sitting with family, including my Uncle and Aunt (Cecile and Lukes parents). There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Yes, even I shed a tear during the intensity of the final moments of the game. I just couldn’t get over the twins with championships thing. I was just way too emotionally involved haha!

The Coaches
Cecile
Luke

Both Cecile and Luke won individual medals which was really neat to see.

There was a lot of excitement in the crowd since it had been many years since the last time both their Senior Boys and Senior Girls won. It turned out to be a great night to finally catch some High School Basketball!

After the game everyone – team, parents, relatives – piled into their cars and made there way to Me & Ed’s pizza for all you can eat. Chad was quite possibly in heaven considering he was going on hour 11 of no food!

Who would have thought a High School Basketball game would have been so entertaining.

Winter Spring Fall

Visiting the Nieghbours

It is the busiest time of year for me, so you are going to have to excuse my lack of posting.

Spring is close to coming to an end, but seasons never end as nicely as they should. There are always stragglers and styles that scream to be finished and zippers you thought you already ordered. I would love for a season to just END, nice and tidy with no loose ends, but, we all know that will never happen.

We are now starting to organize Fall, which just totally screws up with my head because it is Winter outside, there are Spring clothes in the warehouse to buy, and we are looking at Fall fabrics. So much confusion.

I have taken on the giant responsibility of organizing each season now. Being an Organization Whore, it only made sense that I would eventually take it all over. No one else gets the kind of pleasure out of tabbed binders and colourful style walls like I do. Plus, my organization makes everyone life easier here in the office. Yes, you can pat me on the back too.

Oh yea, next week is Invetory. Ha, I got time to organiz that too…NOT!

Email POs to fabric vendors
Finish ordering trims
Receive the trims that have arrived and allocate them to their corresponding factory
Gather design inspiration for todays Design Meeting
Enter Fabric POs into Visual
Create swatch pages
Measure and swatch new fabric
COSTINGS
Organize cost estimates
Update the Open to Buy
Order new binders
Call back fabric vendors
Issue production

And do all of this all day long while juggling everything else that comes along in a day.

Thank God I love organizing and the start of new seasons.

I need to get my life under control!

Salt Isn’t Just for Horses

Friday night we finally made the epic journey to the Salt Tasting Room in Gastown.

We actually read about it on the plane ride from Amsterdam to Vancouver. You know those magazines the airlines produce? Well, they did a feature on Vancouver and included the Salt Tasting Room as one of the must see venues in the city. Yes, that’s right, a tourist magazine informed me, a local, of where to go!

We checked it out online as soon as we got home, and made plans to indulge in a little Wine and Cheese.

Our original plans had to be postponed, so we only just made it to Salt this past Friday, but it was well worth the wait!

The Menu
The Flight

While you can go to Salt for dinner, the best thing to do is order a tasting plate and a wine flight.

A combination of 3 meats and cheeses, 3 condiments, and 3 wines.

You can pick everything yourself, or you can let the masters do what they do best. I chose 2 Cheeses and 1 Meat and then let them choose my condiments and wines. It turned out to be utter perfection!

My Wine
MoatageCab SovPinot Noir

I requested Reds and this is what they brought me. They paired each wine with what I had ordered.

La Frenz Moatage with Chorizo
Avalon Cabernet Sauvigan with Brie
Ft. Bera’s Pinto Noir with Taleggio

Tasters
My Set

They then brought my tasking platter with the condiments they chose.

Balsamic Onions with the Chorizo
Honey with the Brie
Hazelnuts with the Taleggio

Hi Caesar
Moi

The pairings were absolutely amazing. It really is worth it to let the staff pick and arranged the choices. They know what works and how to make your experience the best it can be. You can suggest things you like and have them chose everything, or you can pick the meats and cheeses like we did, and let them pair it from there.

Things you would never think to eat together turn out to me the best things you’ve ever tasted. Add in the wine pairings and you have a mind blowing experience!

I left a little wine to taste once I was done my tasting plate and they tasted totally different on their own then they did paired with the meat and cheese, which just goes to show how important the pairings are.

What is happening to us!?

Dance Baby

I was high on life and kept dacning like Bill Cosby.

The boys indulged in things of the Scot Land.

Tea Time

I indulged in things of the Eng Land.

Dessert

Dessert! Chocolate cake for 2.

I now want to bring everyone I know to Salt so they can share in the life changing experience that is Wine and Cheese/Meat pairing.

While the plates themselves are not substantial or dinner-esque, they do give you the perfect amount of tasting pleasure. Plus all the meats and cheeses are purchased at local deli’s/vendors, so if there is something you really love and want more of, you can ask where it is from, and pick some up for yourself!

This would be such a great place for a date or a classy late night bite to eat.

I am totally in love with Salt.
