Last Saturday we were invited to our first ever High School Basketball game!
Both Ryan and Elise coach basketball at Holy Cross High school, their old alma mater and the school Elise currently teaches at. Every year Holy Cross hosts the BC Catholics Championship, and this was the first year since 1997 that both the Senior Girls and Senior Boys were in the Championship game. Not only that, but my youngest cousins, Elise’s siblings (who are twins), were playing in both games. Talk about a good day to watch High School Basketball!
I put on my American Eagle jeans and Hollister T and was ready to go. Haha!
Elise and Ryan, so professional on the bench.
The girls game was first.
Holy Cross vs. St. Thomas Aquinas
Ryan had to do some extra work and cleaned the floor. Chad cheered for him.
Cecile, my cousin, taking the free throw.
The girls won, but the game wasn’t very close, so there wasn’t a lot of drama, which was quite the opposite of what we were about to experience during the boys final.
We were actually surrounded by STA supporters blowing vuvuzela in our ears, which had Chad and I quite annoyed, but how can you beat up 16 year olds excited about their team?
Chad also had not eaten since 1pm and it was now almost 7. Dinner wasn’t going to happen until after the boys game, so someone was extra cranky.
In the boys finals it was Holy Cross vs. St. Tomas Moore.
My cousin Luke is in the corner scoring the first point of the game. Mid-Air-Shot!
The boys game was very intense, with Holy Cross trailing for most of the game.
Everytime one of the guys went to do a free throw, everyone waved there fingers in the air, kind of like spirit fingers.
I didn’t know a Catholic school could be so superstitious ;)
The boys won in an intense overtime final. I was losing my mind during that last 20 minutes of the game. Since Cecile won her game, I really wanted Luke to win his. Both twins winning championship games!? It’s the dream ending to a Sweet Valley High novel!
We were sitting with family, including my Uncle and Aunt (Cecile and Lukes parents). There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Yes, even I shed a tear during the intensity of the final moments of the game. I just couldn’t get over the twins with championships thing. I was just way too emotionally involved haha!
Both Cecile and Luke won individual medals which was really neat to see.
There was a lot of excitement in the crowd since it had been many years since the last time both their Senior Boys and Senior Girls won. It turned out to be a great night to finally catch some High School Basketball!
After the game everyone – team, parents, relatives – piled into their cars and made there way to Me & Ed’s pizza for all you can eat. Chad was quite possibly in heaven considering he was going on hour 11 of no food!
Who would have thought a High School Basketball game would have been so entertaining.
