Mozzarella Breadsticks

It’s Friday!

It’s been an unexpectedly busy and stressful Friday and all I really want to do is curl up on the couch with a glass of red wine and plate full of these!

I found this recipe on the Kitchn; my new obsession.

As soon as I read it I called my Mom and asked her to pull out a spare ball of pizza dough that she had in the freezer. After work I picked up some mozzarella and went home to put these beautiful creations to work.

They were easy to make and didn’t really take any time at all. Chad made his famous Marinara sauce and these bread sticks were the perfect side to our pasta dish.

At first I kind of expected them to be like the mozzarella sticks you get at the pub, but that was silly of me to think of since they are strips of mozzarella that are breaded and deep fried. These babies are wrapped in dough and baked, so they give you a totally different experience.

I used the part-skimmed mozzarella as the recipe suggests, and it seemed to work good, but they weren’t quite as ooey gooey as I expected.

I baked them in the oven for 20 minutes and then broiled them for 5 just to get some colour on top. There were some cheese spillages as they baked, but I guess that is somewhat unavoidable!

The bread sticks were super tasty, but I felt as though I went a little light on the seasoning, so next time I think I will add a bit more. I am also tempted to break the rules and try these out using the full fat mozzarella. Mom thinks I should anyways!

  1. Oh, you’ve made me really hungry for mozza-sticks!

And I totally agree with your mom, always go for full fat cheese…. anything less is just wrong.
