The PNE Tradition

With all the stuff going on at the house this year, we didn’t actually have any plans to go to the PNE. Sacrilegious I know. However, Dario and Gina came to the rescue and invited us to join them on Sunday for a little traditional fun.

PNE BBQ Goodness

This year we remembered the BBQ Competitions that goes on at the PNE so we stopped in to Smoke and Bones for some Pulled Pork and Brisket. The pulled pork was so good and the brisket was to die for. The crust! The smoke ring! Heaven!

PNE BBQ Goodness

Unfortunately, this story has a sad ending. You see, Chad and I shared both sandwiches so that we could equally eat the BBQ’d goodness. Everything was fine and dandy and we went on about our day. Then after the Super Dogs and Show Mart I was craving something to drink. Chad decided to get an Orange Julius so I shared some of it with him. Then, as predicted by generations of old Italian ladies, I caught a bit of cold air while drinking my cold drink and it caused my stomach to HATE ME.

After visiting the farm animals my stomach was in some serious turmoil, and not wanting to be that girl that takes up one of 2 stalls in the girls washroom for 3 hours while 50 people wait in line, I opted to go home, where, upon entering the house and being hit in the face with the smell of kale my Mother had just prepared, I proceeded to get very sick. Not good.

So, what happens after you’ve eaten something you love and then you get sick? You never want to eat that thing again. SAD. I love you pulled pork and brisket but I can’t see you anymore. It’s not you; it’s me.

But onto more positive things, I am very predictable and always get excited when I see the Army and/or Navy at the PNE. Is it weird to you that the Navy is in charge of bomb disposal? Seems weird to me. Also, that suit is the scariest thing ever.

Lamb Chops!

So, you know how I love lambs. Well, this is the reason I love lambs. LAMB CHOP! This is also the reason I can not eat Lamb Chops.

My cousin had informed me that Lamb Chop was going to be at the PNE but I thought it was a one day only thing that I had missed. Then, while walking towards the Show Mart I heard a familiar voice and was pleasantly surprised! LAMP CHOP!

She is my hero. I have seen every episode of Lamb Chop’s Play Along and if the shows are available on DVD then someone should probably buy them for me because I will watch them over and over and over again. I can not tell you how obsessed I am with this lamb.

Sherri Lewis died quite a few years ago and now her daughter carries on the tradition. I should have gotten a photo with her. I love her. Like, a lot.

Farm Animals!

And, following the theme of predictability, FARM ANIMALS!!!

Farm Animals!

This baby cow was only 12 hours old! Mama cow had some funky stuff still hanging out of her back side which Chad did not like.

Farm Animals!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a spotted pony before.

Farm Animals!

The difference between going to the PNE in the day as opposed to at night is you get to see a lot of things in action. We got to watch the Clydesdales get all fancied up for their show which was pretty neat. Also, they are freaking massive.

Farm Animals!

Shazzi wanted me to steal a bunny for her.

Farm Animals!

Then Dario and Gina tried to steal the goats.

Farm Animals!

If Coquitlam lets me have chickens I am totally building a Vancooper.

Farm Animals!

Have you ever noticed that sheep don’t have tails? I never really thought about it until I watched some farming show where these sheep farmers cut off all the tails of the little lambs. Therefore, it was kind of weird to see the sheep at the PNE with tails!

Their wool was so thick and so soft. I wanted to steal one of them.

Also, ever noticed how people eat ‘Lamb’ but they don’t eat ‘Sheep’. What’s up with that?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Anyways, despite getting rather sick *Damn You Orange Julius!* it was still a pretty good trip to the PNE. Especially since I got to see Lamp Chop!
