Covered In Paint

Reno update! Things are definitely picking up speed!

Drywall!

A lot of electrical work had to be done in the kitchen, adding new plugs and switches, as well as adding in more lighting. Last week Ryan came to install the new sub floor as well as insulate, poly and drywall all the walls. Patching will be finished this week and then priming will happen on Friday. The walls will mostly be covered by cabinets and tiles but there will be a few stops that need some colour.

The Ceiling

The ceiling has been temporarily filled with insulation so that we don’t lose heat while we work. We have yet to purchase and paint the planks for the ceiling but that can be done after we move in.

The Beam

The beam has been sanded and dyed into the wall. It looks pretty snazzy if you ask me. We still need to pick a stain colour, but we are going to wait to see what our choices are with the floor. I do kind of like it in it’s natural state.

Pipe

Nothing original has been left in the kitchen except for the furnace pipe.

French Doors

French Doors! So pretty and much better than aluminum sliding doors.

Hallway

We painted the hallway this weekend – Evening Shadow.

Entrance

We also painted the entrance way the same colour, though it looks much more blue. Chad says it picks up the natural light and reflects the blue in the slate tile. It is not a horrible thing but it’s also not exactly what I was expecting. This was the one colour I was most comfortable with because I was like ‘Light grey! What could go wrong with that!?’.

As a grey loving expert and with all my colour matching experience at work, I should have know that grey is one of the hardest colours to work with because of all the different tints and tones it comes in. All the greys we have chosen for the house have a blue tint to them, so I should have prepared myself better. Anyways, it’s not the end of the world and I think I will live.
Small Bedroom

We painted the small bedroom in Reflecting Pool. It is mush more bright in person. I really love this colour.

Large Bedroom

The large bedroom is painted in Vigorous Violet. This is the shocking room. The colour is very intense but I love it. All the furniture and accessories will be white and grey so it will tone down the room.

Paint Paint

Working away like a good little worker bee.

Main Bathroom Cleaned Main Bathroom Primed

We also painted one coat in the master ensuite and primed the main bathroom. I love the master ensuite, even though it is straight out of the 60s, but I hate the main bathroom. The floor, the tub, the mismatched toilet, the ghetto counter top. Yes, a small price to pay for a brand new kitchen and updated living space, but it is going to drive me nuts having to use this bathroom. I was spoiled when we renovated the apartment because everything was brand new and beautiful. Now I have to suck it up and live with a little bit of ghetto.

This week our goals are to finish painting the bathrooms, and then start on the main living area. We also need to finish the Master Bedroom which shouldn’t take too long.

There will still be a lot of things to work one once we move in, but it will be so nice to finally be IN our new home.

  1. Danielle, I just wanted to comment – entirely unrelated to this post – but ages ago you posted about a recipe that you made from a Kraft daily email? I signed up to the daily recipe thing too, because that recipe you made sounded so good, and there have been a few things I’ve made that were amazing – did you get today’s recipe entitled “chicken with twenty cloves of garlic”?! Had to laugh! Probs won’t be making that one.
