Paint and Grout

All of the painting in the house is done, aside from a few touch ups here and there, and a load of trim that needs to be painted, like the railing on the stairs, and the cabinets in the bathrooms. It feels good to have that all done.

The kick boards in the kitchen have not been installed, which means the tiling has not been done either, but we are moving ahead anyways. We have scheduled our hardwood floors to be refinished next Monday and then we will be moving in that Saturday/Sunday. That’s right, it is finally moving day!

Main Bathroom

In the main bathroom we painted the walls Extra White and then I did 6″ stripes in Sea Worthy. It took some time and lot of measuring but I am happy with the way it turned out. Next I have to add the chair rail and paint the baseboards and cabinet white.

Living Room
Living Room

The living room we painted Julep, the colour I loved from the beginning but just could not fully commit to. I’m glad I did though, because even though it is totally out there it works and is unexpected, which I like. Shazzi says it looks like the Slytherin Common Room so I have to get a portrait of Professor Snape to hang on the wall now.

Dining Room

The long wall in the living room, and the dining room are painted Foggy Day. This may be my favorite colour in the whole house. I painted the built in cabinet 3 times (1 coat primer, 2 coats paint) but it still doesn’t look right. Damn you burgundy and glossy black! I think one more coat should do the trick, and then I have to finish all the doors and shelves. Slowly but surely it is coming together. I can’t wait to order my fancy vintage knobs!

Master Bedroom

In the master bedroom we painted the main walls Ebbtide and the feature wall Great Falls. I think it’s going to look really great with our bedding and Pats picture that we have from the apartment.

Master Ensuite

We kept the master ensuite really simple with just a nice shade of Zurich White. I want to add some gold accessories but I struggle with the fact that there is so much silver going on. Will it be weird to have gold and silver mixed together in such a small space?

Grouting
Grouting

We spent Sunday finishing up the tiles in the foyer and basement. I really wish we had finished these when we started them but oh well. There was a lot of dirt and crap stuck to the oh so porous slate tiles and it took me forever to get them clean. Some spots still have tiny specs of paint stuck to them which drives me crazy, but what can do you.

Grouted
Grouted

Tonight I will wash them once more, to get all the excess grout off and then we will seal them on Thursday and Friday.

I am really excited to have the floors refinished next week because they are going to make a huge difference. I’m also pumped because Claudia is getting rid of a bunch of furniture and guess who is taking it! Maybe I won’t have a bunch of totally empty rooms after all!

  1. CLEARLY I have to buy you a digital frame and breakdown a sequence of Snape so it can mimic the movie effects.

  2. i’m so jealous of your awesome place! I can’t wait to buy a house and get to pick out colours for the walls like a real ‘grown up’. you better do a post when everything is all set up!

  3. LOVE the entrance tiles – we upgraded to all tile in our entrance for the town home, but I think it’s a lighter colour, definitely would have wanted a dark grey!
