Red Oak Coffee

We went to the house last night to check out the progress on the floors. I AM OBSESSED.

I pushed to get the floors refinished at the very beginning of this whole process, but it took Chad a while to come around to my side of the fence. Yes this is a very expensive venture, but it is totally worth it in my opinion, given the state of the floors and the ease of doing it now before we move in.

We met Dmitri through our Realtor and he has been awesome to work with. He knows his stuff and his work is beautiful. He spent Monday doing a rough sand on all the floors, then he had to fill in all the nail holes, and buff the filler out. Yesterday we got our first look at our beautiful virgin floors.

Stain Test

We did a stain test in the living room so we could see what different colours look like on our Red Oak floors. Colours can change depending on the type of wood  you are staining, so it was great that he was able to do a test for us.

From left to right – Antique + Black, Coffee, Antique

I love all the choices but the Coffee is exactly the look we were going for. I think we might stain the beam darker, maybe Coffee + Black, and I would love to stain some of our furniture Antique.

This is what the finished floors should look like in terms of colour.

Dining Room Sanded

After sanding it 5 times, the dining room started to resemble actual wood floors and not cement covered wood floors. It was quite the process to get it to this state, and as you can tell, it’s not 100% perfect. However, more of the discolouration should be hidden by the stain, and what isn’t will just add interest to the floor.

Filling in the Holes

This is the hallways covered in filler waiting to be buffed out. I am so excited to see what the floors are going to look like fully stained. They are going to be so rich!
