I went to my family Doctor yesterday to get my prescriptions refilled and I asked him a bunch of questions about all the stuff I was told at the Cancer Clinic. He put all my worries to rest and said one test doesn’t mean anything. This is a wait and see situation and there is really nothing to worry about at this point. He is going to get the Cancer Clinic to fax him over the rest of the results and then review them himself. Thank God for that.

Last night Marlee and I went out for coffee and I did the stupid thing of having a White Chocolate Mocha at 8pm. I swear to God I never learn. Anyways, we were there until about 10:30 and hyper as ever. I got home and did all the dishes, made all the lunches, cleaned up and had a shower before going to bed. I was on caffeine fire. I slept alright, but after having my morning tea I seriously felt like I was hungover. I had a coffee hangover. Ugh. Not good. I basically had to eat a bunch of food to make it go away. Thankfully it did.

I am super craving pasta right now. I wonder which sauce Chad will make tonight.

Alicia is sick and dying behind me. If she touches anything that belongs to me I am going to punch her in the face. IN THE FACE!

I spent the entire day putting together the Spring Production Schedule. It took forever but it looks amazing. I organize like a Mother Trucker.

I’m really not a fan of Mandatory Marley at 4:20.

Saturday was for Me

Saturday was what Chad referred to as a typical “Danielle Day”. Why was it a”Danielle Day”? Well, because we spent the evening in my parents living room watching TV. Perfection.

The plan for the day was to wash the cars in the AM and then hang out with Dario & Marlee at Buntzen Lake in the PM. Only problem was, Dario was camping and no one knew when he would be home. So Chad and I decided to take it easy and just kind of hang out until we knew what the story was.

Surprisingly I had a lot of energy on Saturday and got up at 8:30 for some reason unbenounced to me. I did a bunch of cleaning and TV watching and waited for Chad to get his old tired butt out of bed.

We headed over to my Moms at around lunch time, ate the contents of her fridge, hung out and looked at pictures, and then finally decided to wash the car. It only took us 20 minutes to wash my car with Chad manning the hose and myself manning the sponge. It was bloody hot and Chad found it very amusing to spray the house up in the air over me so that it felt like it was raining. Annoying, yet refreshing.

Then we went to visit my Nonna and Nonno who tried to pon off half their liqour collection on us because they didn’t know how to drink the stuff or what to mix it with. We politely said no thanks and left with a bottle of red wine instead. My Nonna likes to tell people stories about friends of hers who are going through the same sort of ‘illness’ that they are going through. I think she thinks it makes people feel better to know there are others out there that have it worse. I dunno. Every time I see her she has to update me on her friends daughter who has Leukemia and the stories she tells are seriously depressing and in no way ‘comfort’ me so I really don’t know why she insists on giving me play by play updates.

Once we got the booze and depressing stories out of the way, Chad and I went and got a new battery for my camera and then headed home to wait for the update on Mr. Perizzolos status. It was at this exact moment the the hot sunny clear sky turned a little grey, but we weren’t going to let this stop us.

By 4:00 we decided ‘SCREW IT!’. We got changed, grabbed our stuff, picked up Marlee, and headed out to PoMo for some eats and then to the lake. It was just then that Mr. P called to say he was finally home but to tired to come out, so we kept on our way. We stopped at Subway to get some food to bring to the lake and just as we were paying a torrential down pour happened. Great. We stood inside waiting for about 10 minutes and then decided to b-line it for the car. We were slightly soaked but no less determined to head down to the lake.

The rain followed us all the way to Buntzen lake but luckily stopped by the time we got there. We found a spot at the not so crowded lake, lay our blankets down and spread out for some sammiches and humid weather. The sky was covered in clouds but it was still nice enough out that we took what we could get.

Hanging Out

After about an hour of relaxing the rain rolled in and we decided the hell out of there. We headed home, dropped Marlee off, and then decided to go straight to my parents house even though they weren’t home yet. It was so gross and rainy outside but so muggy inside that we had to open the windows to let some air in. That’s when the Thunder & Lightening started. It was a good thing we left Buntzen when we did.

We then spent the rest of the evening watching the TV and the Lightening storm while sipping on hot tea and Scotch. Pretty damn perfect if you ask me. Not to metion we only spent $20 the whole day on food. Beats spending $100 at the bar on a Saturday night.

It was totally a Danielle kind of Saturday.

It’s not always about Pork

Marlee is in surgery this morning. I’m waiting to here how it went.

I don’t think this weekend was what anyone expected it to be. It did have its good moments though.

It’s hard when your best friends are going through a rough patch. It’s hard for me not to get emotionally involved in it and want to fix it. As much as I try to not let it affect me, it does, because I love them.

I can not even count how many times I lost this weekend.

Saturday we went to Bosa to buy all the missing ingredients for our Fathers Day extravaganza. I will let you guess how much HALF of the ingredients cost. Nope, Nope, Nope. $100. This is because I am ridiculous and want to believe that I am actually the head chef at some fancy restaurant and feel the need to prepare way too much fabulous food then is really needed. I knew this going in but because it was the first time I was having my parents over I felt the need to blow their socks off. I might have achieved that, but in my head I didn’t. My head is a strange place.

That afternoon we cleaned. We cleaned all the stuff we still hadn’t cleaned from the camping trip. The clothes were washed. The kitchen was re arraigned. The picture Pat took was printed and hung in its rightful spot.

I then may or many not have had a slight emotion breakdown from thinking too much about all that was going on.

Marlee was gracious enough to come over and Fish Tail my hair even though she was unable to come out with us for dinner. I love Fish Tails.

The boys met us at the apartment and we took the train down to Memphis Blues where we met Ryan and Elise. We ‘pigged out’ on pork. It was fabulous. We barely had enough food to fill us all up on.

Time to dig in

Once the meat sweats set in we awkwardly packed into Elise’s car and drove down to Toby’s for some drinks. Because we got to Memphis Blues early to beat the rush it was only 7 by the time we got to Toby’s. Yea, people usually don’t show up that early to start drinking. Luckily this allowed us to get a giant table right beside the pool table.

The boys chose different pitchers of beer and the girls mulled over how the Mojitos tasted like basil. Considering they were our first Mojitos we didn’t know what to expect.

There was pool playing and blackberry wikipedia searching, penny bouncing and hockey playing, jackass watching and paisley corduroy shirt envying.

Then ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ came on and we knew it was our key to leave. 5 hours in a bar, not bad. I’d go back again.

Sunday the weather played tricks on us. We got up early and started our day and began to prepare all the food we needed for that night. The marinade for the Pork Fillets was interesting. It was the first time we were trying this recipe. Chad was very worried about it. I guess its not smart to try out a new recipe on guests the first time they are invited over, especially on your main dish. Oh well, I had faith.

Francesca, Elise, & Ryan came over in the afternoon. The boys watched golf and the girls when and got manicures and pedicures. Now that I know Pure Nail Bar is across the street from me and their prices are very reasonable I am pretty sure I will be going there quite a bit. We got to sit in comfy white couches and watch episodes of Friends while we had our nails done. Best idea ever.

Back home I finished preparing everything for dinner. The parentals and brother came over and we ate.

Appetizer – Although Chad slightly burned the roasted garlic it still tasted amazing and I was pleased with it.

Main – So the marinade had a lot of crazy things in it, and there was a part of me that was actually disappointed with the taste, but after trying it again this morning I think with a little less orange zest and a little more charring on the BBQ and it would have been perfect. I am not so against trying this recipe again.

Salads – Well its hard to screw that up. They were both damn tasty.

Sides – The mushrooms didn’t turn out 100% as I was expecting but they were tasty and I know how to make them better the next time. The potatoes as well didn’t turn out 100% as I was expecting even though I’ve made them many times, but they were still very good.

Dessert – This blew Chad away, probably because he thought he had married Bobby Flay or something. It wasn’t so much about the contents as it was the presentation. I really should have taken a photo. Picture a large wooden tray with a bottle of chilled Grappa surrounded by shot glasses, a mound of perfectly frozen red grapes and pile of 4 different types of chocolate. The combination of the three was amazing. It made me look like I knew what I was doing.

Over all I guess it was a success even though I focused on the things that went wrong. I’m silly like that.

Now it’s Monday and we will see how the week plays out.

Pork Fest 09

Rocks and Trees and Water

I have spent the past two days updating Facebook with photos from my life. Now I am tired of looking at Facebook.

I have also being going nuts at work with millions of things all due at the same time. It’s a little stressful, but hopefully I can get a bunch of stuff under my belt today.

Oh yea, not to mention that we are going away this weekend and I have tons of stuff to plan and pack and I still have to do laundry. Le sigh.

Therefore, I do not have time for words today, only pictures from our adventure at Lynn Valley this past Saturday. I’ll save the nature shots for this weekend. They are so pretty though.

My Pony Tail is a Rats Nest

I had a bad sleep last night which is unusual because I mostly always have good sleeps. It must have been the fact that I had to get up early this morning to head down to the hospital for another Pre-Op Clinic. I was most likely stressing in my sleep.

All I Need

The weekend went by in a peaceful manner. Saturday I cleaned ever last bit of space in the place. I was in a cleaning mood and I felt that I should harness the energy I had into a cleaning overhaul. It might make you laugh, knowing how clean my apartment is on a daily basis, that I feel the need to do a cleaning overhaul on the weekends, but its true. I hate dust and dirt and grim. I even went through my closet and got rid of stuff, considering how many new pieces I purchased last week and stuffed in there. Closet organize, Purses organize, Jewellery organize. It felt so good to get that done. I even gave a bag of stuff to my cousin to sift through, which made Chad happy that I made space and got rid of some clothes.

Amidst my cleaning I totally forgot about laundry. Usually its the first thing I do in the morning, unless I know I don’t have the time to dedicate a big chunk of hours to do it, but this time I totally forgot. I usually do laundry every other week, unless I need to do some mid week and for the life of me I couldn’t remember when the last time I did it was. But the bed was already made and I really didn’t feel like taking it apart to change the sheets to remake the bed since I was occupied with 5 other things so I left it. I probably should change the sheets tonight though.

Italian Essentials

Saturday night we met Dario & Marlee at the Soho pub in Burnaby for dinner and hockey. We had never been to the pub before and it was quite large. Overall it was a nice place with only some things looking worn out and in need of a renovation. Everything was good until the 1st period of the game ended, then it was all down hill from there. We were all so pissed off that we left before the game ended. What a shitty way to end the evening. We couldn’t even talk about it because we were so mad. We all headed out our own ways and I drove Chad down to the Cambie so he could meet up with Ryan who was at the game and left early as well. I decided to go home and snuggle up to a good book since it was so rainy and stormy out. See even the weather was pissed off.

Oh and another thing. Why the hell do I bother ordering Greek food from a Pub when I know that I make Greek food 100 times better then most pubs and their food will never live up to my standards? I have no idea what I do this either…

Grape Tomatoes

When I got home, I snuggled into bed and found ‘Somethings Gotta Give’ playing on TV. Its one of my favorite movies so I enjoyed the quite time with the lights out snuggled in bed watching it. It ended up being such a perfect night for me, despite the Canuck loss. Watching the movie reminded me of my “Must Have Movie List” that I am compiling of movies that I love yet don’t own. Right now that list only included Somethings Gotta Give, Steal Magnolias, & Liar Liar. I swear there are more movies on the list but right now those are the only three I can remember.

Pasta Sauce

Sunday we slept in a bit and then headed over to Safeway to get some ingredients for these stuffed cherry tomatoes that I had to make as an appy for a family function last night. I took a million photos of them but forgot to upload them – my bad. They ended up being a total hit which made me happy. I have cousins here from Italy so all the Rossi’s got together last night with them for dinner at my uncles place. I was feeling low energy so I basically just sat in a chair and chatted all night long with my cousins, which was relaxing. However, what was not relaxing was  every single person coming up to me asking how I was feeling and how doing. I totally appreciate their concern, but I won’t lie,  by the end of the night I was tired of talking about it, which is not their fault, its just that I have a giant family and everyone wants to make sure I’m ok. I feel bad even feeling slightly annoyed by the whole thing because no one meant any harm, it was just me and my wanting to run away and hide so I can continue to ignore what I have face next week instead of dealing with it. I will be happy when this is all over and I never have to talk about it again. You know how much I hate being the centre of attention, and right now its like that times 10.

I am making this all much more bigger then it actually is.

Anyways, tonight is Costco night so that’s something to look forward to, right?

Dinner

Also, new obsession of the moment – Grey Gardens. I am going to try and buy ever single thing I can find on this. Must somehow find the HBO movie somewhere since we don’t have HBO. Sigh. CHAD, why don’t we just order that channel already??? Every show we love is on there!!!
