Weekends That You Live For

This past weekend was epic. It was the kind of weekend you live for. It had been so long since we’ve had a weekend like this.

Pat and Aimee flew out for the Banquet again this year and Pat decided that this flight would be the perfect time to pop a certain question to Aimee. We all had dinner at Dario & Ginas to celebrate. Saturday us girls went and got our nails done, then we all came over to the house so everyone could see the progress. Saturday night was the Banquet and Sunday we headed over to Dario & Ginas for Mimosas, Scotch and Cigars. It was a weekend of celebrations.

I felt like I was in the 50s while I was getting ready. Too bad all the curls in my hair fell out in a way that made my hair look like crap and I ended up having to straighten it. FAIL. I can never ever curl my hair and make it look good. I don’t know why I even bother.

Also, noet the number of freckles on my arm.

IMG_20121103_170650

Because it took me so long to get my hair done Chad spent extra time on his, and it didn’t go noticed.

IMG_20121103_201426

A friend of a friend introduced me to drinking Gin and Ginger. I am hooked. Damn hipsters and their good drinks.

IMG_20121103_203830

Ryan was very impress with Chads hair, and coming from Ryan, the hair master, that is a big compliment.

IMG_20121103_203949

I bought myself a new dress. I was pretty excited about it because it was stretchy which meant I could eat all the food at the banquet this year. Everything was so good. They even had the brilliant idea of serving a late night snack of pizza. GENIUS.

The Mafia showed up after dinner for some scotch and cigars.

IMG_20121103_214228

Who are these old guys.

IMG_20121104_000521

You know you’ve had a good evening when you end up with wine lips. I am very yellow and Chad is very red.

IMG_20121104_001339

Dear, we are not at the Cambie. You are not allowed to do that here.

IMG_20121104_005246

Everyone went home and we stuck around to do some drunk dancing. Jeremy almost got naked. Eddie the DJ, who was also the DJ at our wedding, surprised us by playing our wedding song. I balled my eyes out. Our wedding song is so obscure that I have never heard it played anywhere. It was a very sweet moment.

IMG_20121104_014241

I took the ‘pianta’ from the table home since we have no living things in the house. Chad dropped it spilling dirt all over my newly cleaned car. Not impressed!

Mimosa Time

IMG_20121104_110334

I was also not impressed when I found out how much these bad boys cost.

IMG_20121104_114411

We sat on the stoop while Dario & Gina drove Pat & Aimee to the airport.

What an adorable family portrait! I just realized Dario has a mustache in this photo. Even better!

Many congrats go out to Pat and Aimee. I am so excited for their wedding and even more excited to be a part of their special day. This is our family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Weekend Update

Long Dog Green Spot
Man Tie Mad Men
1960s Wife Don
Saturday Dinner Boy Band
Chad Loves England Giancarlos

We had a busy little weekend on our hands.

Friday night we headed over to Nori and Jeremys for some traditional Friday Night Pizza and then to a Mad Men party where we met quite the cast of doctors and medical personnel. I had a very strong allergy attack thanks to some cat fur that found its way on to my pant leg. Usually, if it gets in my eye, my eye becomes red and itchy, but after washing it out I am fine. This time, however, my eye decided to swell and water making my vision kind of wonky. Thankfully this occurred at the end of the night, but it lasted for more than twelve hours, even after taking a Benadryl. Damn you cat who I didn’t even touch!

Saturday I skipped out on doing anything productive and decided to tag along with Ma and Pa in the Mustang. I may or may not have mentioned it before but Pa got Ma a 1965 Red Ford  Mustang Convertible, and by ‘got’ I mean that he bought it and drives her around in it because it doesn’t have power steering. He fixed it up a bit over the winter and they have been going on joy rides ever since. I went and bought a blue and red head scarf which I wore with large sunglasses as I rode around in the back. It was pretty snazzy expect when we got on the highway and my scarf blew off and my hair became a giant knotted mess.

Saturday night we joined Pat and Aimee for dinner at Dario and Gina’s, where Gina made an amazing lasagna and Pat sang songs that rivaled Mariah Carey’s range. Then the boys went out to smoke cigars and drink scotch, and the girls sat around the table playing Go Fish. We are seriously from the 50s.

Sunday we watched Italy beat England at Ryan and Elises. I try not to get into sports anymore ever since the Canucks ripped my heart out and stomped on it, so I haven’t really been paying attention all that much to the Euro Cup. I didn’t really get nervous watching the game until it was time for the penalty kicks, which I could not bring myself to watch. However, it was a good game, and it was the first time in my history of watching the national team play where they were actually aggressive and didn’t get lazy and defensive.

After the game we went and met up with our Realtor John and got the keys to the house! It was kind of weird walking through the housing thinking that it was finally ours. Everything that we had works do hard towards was finally here. We will be going back during the week to bring some things over and to start to prep for the renos. Now all the fun can really begin!

FUBAR in the Rain

Here is the story of our monsoon camping trip.

Setting up the Tent

It is shocking how efficient one can be when not drinking beer and trying to socialize.

Tree in the Way

We rented three campsites which was a bit of overkill considering not as many people came as we were expecting. However, this meant that we could stick all the tents on the single site and have the double site as the party grounds. Only problem was that a tree fell in the forest and nobody heard it so it blocked the path between the sites. Thankfully Dario moved it.

Bark

Every time we drive up to Golden Ears I tell Chad about how much I love evergreens and moss and lichen and ferns and he always says I know, you say this every year.

Tarps

We knew Saturday was going to rain so the boys did a very good job of putting tarps up everywhere.

Beer Cozy

The infamous Beer Cozy

Up High

Who brings a 20 foot extension ladder camping? Dario does!

Jerky Boy

He is an odd fellow.

Feeding Wildlife

This is Gimpy the Squirrel who is actually a chipmunk. We called him Gimpy because his left front paw was broken and he dragged it along the ground. It was heartbreaking so Dario fed him a couple goodies. We couldn’t believe the amount of wildlife out trying to steal our food this year. Maybe thats cause people always feed them…

Smoke

We have all become Cigar Smokers BTW.

Humidor

Who brings a humidor camping? Pat does!

Nice Pants

And then this happened.

Shrooms

Crazy Mushrooms.

Weekend Ring

My weekend ring.

Stick Ball

No camping trip is complete with out a game of stick ball.

Hello

Oh yea, I’m here too.

Dario fell over.

Breakfast

Chad made breakfast hash on Saturday morning in the cast iron skillet. Nom nom nom.

Breakfast Port

Dario drank port out of the bottle.

Laughs

Pat likes Pugs.

Snuggles

I could not handle her adorableness.

Lady Pillow

I’m a pillow. And despite my appearance, it wasn’t actually that cold.

Broken Chair

Neil broke another chair. And his tent leaked. This was not a good weekend for him.

Cooks

Pat made this years Captain Scotty Burgers with Bacon, Bison, and stuffed with various cheeses.

Blue Cheese Ooze

Jeremy and I opted for the Blue Cheese variety. By far the best Captain Scotty Burgers to date!

Playin

There are way too many pictures of Pat doing his Ryan Warner impersonation.

Beer Holder

When your broken chair becomes a beer holder.

Tarp Set Up

Pat taped an emergency blanket over the fire to stop the tarp from melting and to reflect the heat down towards us. The man is a genius.

Stream

Water flowed off the tarp like a faucet. We did a couple experiments to see how hard and fast it was raining. At the height of the storm it took 8 seconds to fill up a 1 liter bowl.

BBQ Delight

Hobo Packs and Beer Can Chicken.

Roasting

2 more pretty birds over the fire pit.

Shocker

INAPPROPRIATE!

Master Carver

Jeremy carves like a mad man.

Dirty Jew

We had smores for dessert and Pat got them all over his FACE.

Morning After

After a very rainy day and night it was time to go home once Sunday rolled around.

This year was very subdued compared to years gone by. Maybe that’s because we didn’t have the hilarious antics of one Mike Pouwels or the Irish good looks of one Ryan Tyrrell. I guess you can’t win every year. None the less this year was pretty damn good even though it rained a lot. At least we were prepared!

Another FUBAR has come and gone! Where does the time go.

To view all the photos you can do so here.

Cow Town Rain Town

We are back in the land of rainy days and high gas prices!

I feel kind of stressed right now. Nothing exciting happened at work while I was away, which is always a good thing, but I have to take Chad into the hospital to have surgery today. If I wasn’t getting on a plane to go to LA tomorrow I probably wouldn’t feel so stressed and worried, but because I am leaving the country I can’t help but feel horribly guilty. Of course we had no control over the timing of everything I just really wish it could have been different! At least we are still at my parents house and my Mom will be home with him, but I still don’t like having to impose on her like this.

The surgery isn’t anything too scary, he is just getting his nose fixed so that he can breath, but still, its surgery. Maybe if he doesn’t look so bad tonight I will feel better about everything. But its OK. I am going to breath and everything will be fine.

We had an awesome time in Sylvan Lake. Pat and Aimee were great hosts and I’m really glad we decided to drive out there because the road trip was amazing.

I love that Alberta is full of farms. I love that Pat and Aimee live in a cabin. I love that we watched Duck Dynasty as a family. I love that Pat took us shooting. I love that Aimee cooked amazing meals. I loved everything we did, and I’m really looking forward to going back one day.

Hi, I’m in Delaware.

Well, not quite but close. I’m in Sylvan Lake. Sylvan Lake Alberta that is. You probably don’t know where that is because I didn’t know where that is until I looked it up.

Sylvan Lake is the home of our favourite Jewish bacon loving friend and his wonderful girlfriend. We have come to visit and learn what makes peoples necks red.

We left Saturday morning and drove to Revelstoke, where we spent the night and left yesterday morning and arrived in Sylvan just in time to enjoy a bacon filled dinner with Dario and Gina before they headed back home.

We are here for a week so today we take it easy; maybe partake in some golfing and yoga. There are plans for farmers markets and shooting of guns, as well as shopping trips and gourmet dinners. Since we haven’t had a weeks vacation in over a year, this week will be very much enjoyed.

Pictures and stories to come!
